Ct Cummins

“I started out as an illustrator. The more I painted and studied, the more I was sure I was not an illustrator. I became fascinated with the impressionist and their use of color and design. I’m now interested in suggesting nature more than representing it traditionally.” – Ct Cummins

Ct Cummins was born in Rochester, NY, in 1952. She received her BA from Otis Parsons in 1985.

Ct’s fine art career started in 2001 at the Wendt Gallery in Laguna Beach, California, having sold several pieces right from the start. Her work is inspired by a wide variety of masters including Van Gogh, Monet, Bernard Cathelin. It wasn’t until I came to live in Florida and doing a mentorship with David Slonim and Jeff Erickson that I developed my abstract voice and fell in love with cold wax and oil.

“I feel and affinity with the impressionists as far as color, space and texture in purely visual terms. I currently have been with Stellers Gallery for 13 years from my traditional work to my current abstract paintings.”

Ct’s work hangs in corporate and private collections nationally and internationally. Her work has been featured in Orange Coast Magazine, Florida Desgin’s Art Galleries Magazine and Arbus Magazine.

There is an openness that is needed in art. We live in a chaotic world where I feel I should paint simple and direct avoiding the overworked story. Color for me is the catalyst for all my work as there is no other way that I see the world as it is a powerful element of expression and design. I paint using oil and coldwax for its luminosity and the ability to dig back into the layers of paint to show the history of the layers.
